But it wouldn’t solve much of the problems here in Luxembourg, as we still can’t get our government to understand that Luxembourgish is more than a local language.

The fact that our own government only moved to support on a reduced rate our language and culture, after some more unwanted and more right wing oriented people got quite an increase on their votes in the national elections a few years ago, makes real integration still a very hard job.

I mean if I look at the resources allocated to support and evolve our language as an internationally recognized one, it looks like they just did technically what they promised.

Infact as it takes so long for those dictionaries to be created and the refusal to make our language an internationally recognized one, not even to think about Luxembourgish to be considered the first national language and not the third after French and German, (If I wanted to be nasty, I’d write that Luxembourgish is competing for the 3rd place with Portugese ^^ ), it’s just another way not to let our language live freely.

For me this is the most sore point in our socio-political issues. You want to be rid of right wing ideas getting more popular? Good, but then do something about it. I personally despise the idea that I have to be prepared to talk in my own country, in places like shops,events,… etc, in a foreing language to be sure to get full service and that I have to consider myself lucky if I can get around in my native language.

Please note I have not yet pointed out that without knowing French to a skill level close to excellent, a Luxembourgish citizen cannot understand it’s own legislation.

I have friends and acquaintances from all over the world, and I believe in the diversity of cultures not the competition of cultures. My point is, integration can only happen if the the people whom you want to integrate do not already form the container.

As a positive thing I have to mention that actually the population, is doing a far better job at promoting and reanimating our language and culture, than our government.

Du fragst, ob es nicht besser ist, dass das Netz international ist, dass es eben nicht nur Regionen besser vernetzt. Aus der eigene Erfahrung weiß ich, dass gerade das Vernetzen von Regionen sehr wichtig ist – das Netz kann das leisten.

Ich glaube, dass der Mittelpunkt des Lebens irgendwann im Netz sein wird und das Treffen und Leben im Meatspace nur eine Ergänzung dazu ist.

Ja, wir müssen gegen den Nationalismus ankämpfen. Im und ausserhalb des Netzes. Wenn wir all die Probleme, die du ansprichst, gelöst haben, dann kommt meine Vision dran – denn eigentlich bist du inhaltlich gar nicht weit weg von mir, hast nur mehr Probleme benannt, als ich.
